APR. 19 update: Ever since I put this up, my spam has quadrupled. Apparently spammers don’t like the IP addresses they use/hijack/etc. published. Well, too bad. I just can’t keep up with all of them. So I will probably skip some days here and there.

This morning as I logged into WP to moderate some comments from my friend the PearLady (see blogroll), I noticed I also had 21 spam comments caught in queue by Akismet. Such a lovely program. Right, so, fed up with even the attempts from spammers, I have collected their IP addresses and have decided to publish them in a continuous list. Note that these are just from today, and do not include previous spammers’ IP addresses. However, I will try to update this when and as the spam comes rolling in (to Akismet, that is). I’m not sure what purpose this serves, if only a record of some lame-o, but whatever. If someone could kindly tell me how to ban certain IP addresses on WP, I’d appreciate it.

WordPress says in their FAQ’s they don’t block certain ip addresses, as it may block some legitimate users. Thank goodness for Akismet! It’s a gem, indeed!
I think if you have proof that a specific IP address is spamming, you should be able to block it. Update your own list and bang, they’re done. Well, til the next one comes along.
and yes, Akismet is priceless!
I have a little board for electronics enthusiasts that is currently being so overwhelmed by spammers that it has lost the interest of the ‘regular’ people who post there.
Any suggestions would be welcomed.

I’m not sure if Akismet works on message boards, but it doesn’t hurt to check it out. take a gander at akismet.com. if it doesn’t work on message boards yet, I’m sure they’re working on it.

It works.
I have started to develop a blacklist service that should automate the whole process of blocking those static ip spambots. Maybe this helps against those buggers until they find something new.
