crap! I almost forgot!
I went to the eye doctor today! I had a good time! haha how often do you hear people say that?! well, I went to this certain doc as he’s Steve’s eye doc as well. hilarious, I tell you! and I have “Refractive Amblyopia” of my left eye. Now, I’ve known it all along, since I was wee, but never really knew what it was called. To put it bluntly, my left eye is fucked.
There’s no better way to explain it than this, courtesy of answers.com:
“Amblyopia is an uncorrectable decrease in vision in one or both eyes with no apparent structural abnormality seen to explain it. It is a diagnosis of exclusion, meaning that when a decrease in vision is detected, other causes must be ruled out. Once no other cause is found, amblyopia is the diagnosis. Generally, a difference of two lines or more (on an eye-chart test of visual acuity) between the two eyes or a best corrected vision of 20/30 or worse would be defined as amblyopia. For example, if someone has 20/20 vision with the right eye and only 20/40 with the left, and the left eye cannot achieve better vision with corrective lenses, the left eye is said to be amblyopic.
Anisometropia (also called Refractive Amblyopia by some eye doctors): This is another type of functional amblyopia. In this case, there is a difference of refractive states between the two eyes (in other words, a difference of prescriptions between the two eyes). For example, one eye may be more nearsighted than the other eye, or one eye may be farsighted and the other eye nearsighted. Because the brain cannot fuse the two dissimilar images, the brain will suppress the blurrier image, causing the eye to become amblyopic. “
So, in effect, my brain got shown a blurry picture and therefore my left eye is “lazy”. Actually, it’s my brain that is lazy. No form of lens can correct this, as it actually has to do with the working of my brain. Therefore, I blame my brain for this. Damn it anyhow.
On the upside, I’m getting schwanky glasses so I can look cool. I’m getting old and my eyes work a lot harder than they should. So. Yeah. That’s the news.

i’d like t o find what icd codes for exam and diagnosis of condition worked for ins reimbursement for an optometrist visit for determining need for vision training.
i have a 92004 exam[ was extensive and expensive ] and 367.0 and 367.4 for icd-9 condition codes.
they are going to look into it more[ the office] but i sense since they dont do insurance they are not that savvy.
I’m sorry I have no idea how to help you with that. google, probably?
i thought refractive amblyopia could be corrected using eye patches, eye drops or glasses… eye patches is most popular. that’s what i heard.
Hi! I was surfing and found your blog post… nice! I love your blog.
Cheers! Sandra. R.

it could possibly assist with it, but chances are slim of any complete correction, as far as I know.
Look into vision therapy. I have the same problem and there is hope. It’s not incurable as some optometrists would lead you to believe.
